AI foundations courses and concepts
Artificial intelligence is software that carries out tasks we associate with human thinking — recognizing images, following language, making predictions — by learning patterns from data rather than following rules a programmer wrote out in advance. The shift that matters is from instruction to example: conventional software does exactly what it was told, while a learned system produces an answer that is likely rather than guaranteed, which is why it can be impressively right and confidently wrong in the same sitting. Getting your footing means sorting out a handful of words the public conversation uses interchangeably — artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, generative AI — and working out which of them describes something that exists today.
The vocabulary of AI foundations
These terms sit on a single ladder: what AI can actually do today, and the stages beyond it that remain hypothetical. Public argument slides between them constantly — a warning about a future general intelligence gets attached to a system that does one narrow thing well. Worth a click if you have ever wondered whether a headline was describing a product or a prediction.
Courses on AI foundations
Every introduction to AI covers roughly the same ground, so the question that separates one course from another is who it is written for rather than what it contains: someone who wants to follow the conversation, someone who has to make a call about AI at work, or someone who has to start using the tools by next week. The subject matter barely moves between them — the examples, the pace and the assumed stakes change completely.

Foundations are the part you only cover once. Learn AI goes further into how these systems work without asking you to build one; Use AI is where the same ideas turn into work you actually do, tool by tool and job by job; Develop AI picks up where the concepts stop, at the point you want to make something.
