Empower your workforce with Microsoft Copilot: Legal
Microsoft Learn
Last updated October 6, 2026
Empower your workforce with Microsoft Copilot: Legal is a free Microsoft Learn module that applies Copilot to a company's legal and compliance work: regulatory response, contract review, audit readiness and governance reform. The first exercise drafts regulatory guidance in Copilot Chat, summarizes a vendor contract's terms and risks in Word, prepares an issue brief for a regulator with the Researcher agent, and builds a Regulatory Inquiry Assistant with Agent Builder before questioning it about an audit. The second updates a company policy and corrective-action plan with other departments in Loop, maps cross-department risk areas in Excel, presents a governance reform roadmap in PowerPoint, and sets up a compliance notebook in OneNote. It is part of Microsoft's Empower your workforce with Microsoft Copilot learning path and ends with its own assessment. The exercises are done in your own Microsoft 365 environment. Some tasks need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, and which agent features are available depends on the licenses and admin settings in place.

Why we suggest this course
Its scenarios sit inside a company: answering a regulator, preparing for an audit, updating company policy and reforming corporate governance. The tasks produce the documents that work needs, including regulatory guidance, a contract summary, an issue brief, a corrective-action plan and a risk map. The Regulatory Inquiry Assistant, built and then questioned about an audit, shows how an agent can answer a team's regulatory questions. One thing to know: the first exercise is built on California privacy law, the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act, so a reader in another jurisdiction will need to translate that regulatory detail.
