Microsoft Learn
Last updated October 6, 2026
Empower your workforce with Microsoft Copilot: Communications is a free Microsoft Learn module that covers a communications team's strategy work and its employee-facing work in two connected scenarios. The first develops a strategic communication brief in Word, uses the Researcher agent to find external trends and proof points and compares its analysis with Copilot Chat's, analyzes engagement metrics in Excel to identify lower-engagement audiences, and presents the result to executives in PowerPoint. The second drafts a company-wide announcement in Viva Engage, prepares town hall topics from project updates and employee feedback, develops campaign ideas and a channel plan with the Idea Coach agent, and builds an FAQ agent with an appropriate tone, boundaries and escalation guidance. It is part of Microsoft's Empower your workforce with Microsoft Copilot learning path and ends with its own assessment. The exercises are done in your own Microsoft 365 environment. Some tasks need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, and which agent features are available depends on the licenses and admin settings in place.

Why we suggest this course
Two tasks deal with how AI output is sourced and governed. In one, you compare the Researcher agent's analysis with Copilot Chat's and write a sourced summary for leadership. In the other, building the FAQ agent goes beyond what it should say to how it should sound, what it must not answer, and when it should escalate a question. Those are the decisions a communications team is accountable for when an agent answers staff on the organization's behalf. The other tasks cover a strategy brief, engagement data, an executive presentation, a company-wide announcement, town hall preparation and campaign planning.
